Moscow police detain 130 people wanted in other countries

MOSCOW police detained 130 people at railway stations and airports wanted by law enforcement agencies in other countries in 2011. Most of the detainees were citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Belarus, a spokesman for the Moscow Inter-Regional Transport Prosecutor's Office told Itar-Tass. The detained persons were most often wanted for theft, fraud, illegal drug trafficking, murder and attempted murder, grave harm to people's health, and assault.

P r o s e c u t o r s s a i d Wednesday each was investigated for possible extradition. "Special attention was paid to possible persecution for political reasons, which makes extradition impossible," the spokesman said. Seventy-three detainees were extradited to the countries that initiated the search for them; 29 released, and some of them faced administrative penalties for breach of migration legislation. PNA
