At least 15 killed in road accident in India


AT least 15 people were killed and 57 others were injured early Monday when two private luxury buses collided in the western Indian state Maharashtra's Buldana district, reported Indo-Asian News Service. The accident took place at around 3:30 a.m. local time on the Mehkar-Sultanpur stretch of the Aurangabad-Nagpur highway, around 300 km from Nagpur, when most passengers were sleeping. The vehicles caught fi re after the collision and at least 12 passengers were burnt in their seats, said the report. The injured, of whom 20 are reported to be serious, have been rushed to hospital. The buses belonged to Royal Travels and Soni Travels. One of them was coming from Nagpur and going to Pune while the other was going to Nagpur. Deadly road accidents take place frequently in India. At least 110,000 people were killed each year in the road accidents. PNA/ XINHUA
