Winners, he said, will be based through medal count, and athletes fight for gold, silver and bronze medals. The only difference is the teams will come from the different barangays of Lapu-Lapu instead of the Schools, as is the common practice, Radaza said. In previous years, the inter-barangay summer competition only involved basketball and volleyball events for the different age levels. This year, Radaza is trying something new that would make the summer sports competition more exciting. "We will try to accommodate as many sports as we could and it will be staged in a week or two," added Radaza.
Radaza said he is hoping to gain more experience in hosting events such as this to prepare himself and Lapu-Lapu for bigger events. Lapu-Lapu City is eyeing to host the 2013 Asian Beach Games where at least 30 countries will compete. "It is also our way to get an experience of hosting multi-sports event as we also look up to hosting the 1013 Asian Beach Games. But mainly the Lapu-Lapu City Olympics will help us scout talents from the barangay who can be developed into world-class athletes," said Radaza. The events that Radaza wants to include in the summer meet are badminton, baseball, softball, tennis, table tennis, billiards and amateur boxing. pna
