MORE than 6,000 individuals participated in the fun run last Sunday morning in Butuan City as part of a nationwide activity dubbed the largest single sports run event, exceeding the targeted 300,000 runners all over the seven designated points all over the Philippines.
The 2012 Kahit Isang Araw Lang: Unity Run set a record of 209,000 registered running enthusiasts in Metro Manila alone, surpassing the Guinness world record of 116,086 participants posted in the Run for Pasig River on Oct. 10, 2010. "The fun run is in partnership with the Department of Education's Adopt-A-School Program in which the proceeds of the event would be donated to provide computer facilities to our public Schools students," said Ryan Ramos of Avant- Garde, the events organizer. The run had simultaneous stages in the cities of Cebu, Bacolod, Tacloban, Davao and Puerto Princesa.
Initially Cagayan de Oro was also part of the staging points but after the recent tragedy the organizers decided to skip the city as it was still healing from what happened last December. Ramos added that in light of the recent events in Iligan and Cagayan de Oro they are now taking extra actions in working with DepEd to provide additional classrooms in the cities.
"Right now our two mobile Schools which was part of our Dunong-Gulong project with DepEd are en route to Cagayan de Oro City. We hope that with our effort more School children will have a far better chance in learning," he said.
