THE Cebu Ultra Runners Club (CURC) and Ungo Runners will hold the First All-Women Ultra Marathon 50-kilometer run on March 10 from the Ayala Active Zone to the Rendezvous Beach Resort in Lapu-Lapu City. The activity is part of the celebration of the women's international month in March. The run will start at night and participants will be required to have headlamps or flash lights, which must be presented upon check-in after the 10-hour cut-off time.
"We decided to organize this first all-women ultramarathon in line with the women's international month to promote women empowerment. And this time, it's the men's turn to show their support to all women participants," said one of the organizers, Dr. Humility Logana during the press conference. She was joined by Ayala Center Cebu general manager Joy Polloso, CURC president Tony Galon and other members of the club.
This will be the second time that a Cebuano group is organizing an ultramarathon, but this time, the run will be limited to just 100 participants. "We also want to prove that Cebuanos are capable of organizing a quality ultramarathon," Logana said. She added that they are trying to be environment-friendly and so to limit trash, there will be no water cups.
"Runners, crew, and staff are required to bring their own water or hydration packs, which will be refilled at every aid station located after every five kilometers," Logana said. According to Galon, Nathan, a producer of hydration, reflective and multisport gear and accessories, has expressed its desire to become the events partner. Nathan brand associate Mariel Flores said they encourage runners not only to be health-conscious but to be conscious and responsible for their surroundings. PNA
