First round play-offs game day 1


THE weather may be a little bit cold but that was just enough for the team to be fired up. The top four seeded teams have a twice-to-beat advantage while the bottom four have a twice-to-win uphill climb. As the day ended, two teams moved up while four teams will still play next Saturday for the last two spot for the semi-final round.

Boi-boi's 38 pts fueled Insanity's win from behind

Boi-boi "shooting big man" Abrio is the 6th season's "Player of the Conference" for the first conference with an average of 24 pts, 14.10 rebs, 3 asts, 1.67 stl, 2.45 blks and 1.67-3pts per game, the first rookie to achieve this award in the ball club. The award was given after the Insanity (5) beat the Bandit's-Montegelo (4), 84-82 from behind. Boi-boi also was chosen as the "Player of the Game" with a whooping 38 pts, 10 rebs, 2 asts, 3 stls, 2 blks and 4-3pts. Macky Tan made 16 pts, the only Insanity with double digit in points. The Insanity was awful in the free throw line shooting with only 30% (10-33) but they made it up in their field goal with a 43 % (33-77) and pulled out a win from behind.

The Bandits-Montegelo was led by Nigel "perfect machine" Sia with 22 pts, 12 rebs, 1 asts, 1 stl and a block. Arnel Dawal contributed with 20 pts, 15 rebs but had 8 turn overs and two of them were at the last minutes of the game. Yargo Monsanto added 13 pts for the losing Bandits.

In the 3rd qtr, the score got closer that the 3rd qtr ended with the Bandits on top 66-60. In the 4th qtr the Insanity opened with a 7-0 run to take the lead 67-66 at 7:42. Leif Velez regained the lead for the Bandits as he made a basket and 1, 69-67. But Macky tied the score at 69 all with 7:09. By 5:41 the game was tied at 71 all. Naj Felicilda went 2-2 from the line, 73-71 Insanity. Arnel tied it with 2-2 from the line 73, and took the lead for the Bandits when Arnel was 1-2 from the line after Boi-boi was hit with a technical foul, 74-73. Boi-boi gave the lead to his team when he made a basket, got fouled and 1, 76-74 at 4:29. Arnel was called for a traveling violation at 4:07. In Insanity's possession Jr Balingit missed a shot, rebounded by Boi-boi who also missed an attempt. Arnel grabbed the rebound. Nigel tied the game with 2-2 from the line at 76 with 3:29 in the clock. Richard Chaves passed the ball to Macky and scored for the Insanity, 78-76 with 3:11. Macky made a steal but turned the ball over with a dribbling violation, 2:46. Yargo tied the game, 78 all with a driving lay up with 2:21 in the clock. Jr B hit a jumper to make it 80-78, Insanity, 2:13. Bandits' Albert Montenegro made a turn over and steal to Jr B, Naj was fouled at the 1:43 mark. Naj was 0-2 from the line. Arnel missed a shot but Nigel was there to save the day for the Bandits to even the score at 80 all, 1:16 remaining. In the Insanity's possession Chav's hit a 3ptr with the shot clock down to 5 sec, 83-80 with 50.4 sec left. Bandits answered with Nigel hitting a lay up, 83-82 with 32.2 remaining. Chav's tried to hit a 3ptr but missed and Anel secured the rebound but was called for double dribble as he was trying to get out from the Insanity defense. With time on the Insanity's side, the Bandits who are in penalty fouled Jr B with 11.1, to go to the free throw line. Jr B was 1-2 from the line, 84-82. Arnel secured the rebound from Jr B's missd and saw a team mate running down towards the opposite end. Arnel threw ball but it was long and created a turn over. The buzzer sounded and Insanity won and will have a do-or-die match next Saturday.

Six versus six, Stallions eliminates Pirates in OT

This game featured with only six players playing for each team, Stallions (3) and Pirates (6), the Stallions prevailed in overtime, 122-105. Raffy "F-1" Cabanes again flew his way in the game to become the "Player of the Game" with a career and play-off high 35 pts with 10 rebs, 2 asts, 7 stls and 3-3pts. Raffy was all over the court running and stealing balls from the Pirates. Boyan Daño also had a career high with 31 pts while Bernard Buquiran delivered 24 pts, 11 rebs, 5 asts and 4 stls. Jan-jan Geroy had a play-off high of 14 asts.

Botchok Biongcog of the Pirates managed his first triple-double in the play-offs with 34 pts, 12 rebs, 11 asts and had 1 stl and 1 blk to be named the "Player of the Day". Botchok also received an award as the 15th player to reach 1,000 pts. Three other Pirates scored in double digits, Nelson Nuñal with 28 pts, Cyrus Diango with 19 pts and Bingbong Padilla with 18 pts but all were to the losing cause. Bingbong had a game day high of 4 blocks.

In this game, the 1st qtr ended with the Pirates on top 28-21. In the second qtr the Stallions scored 38 pts in the qtr to take the lead and the 2nd qtr ended with the Stallions on top, 57-50 with Nelson beating the buzzer and hitting a 3 ptr. In the 3rd qtr both squad just exchanged basket after basket and the Stallions still in the lead, 80-71. In the 4th qtr, the score was at 88-79 with 7:10 in the clock. The Pirates slowly charged to full battle and trimmed down the lead when they made a 8-1 run, 89-87 with 4:42 left. But the Stallions countered with a 8-2 run to make it 97-89, Stallions with an 8 pt lead with 2:23. But the Pirates made an 8-0 run to tie the game at 97 all with 51 seconds left. Bernard broke the tie as he scored 2 pts, 99-97, 37.9; Botchok tied the game quickly at 99 with 34.4 ticks left. The Stallions melted some time and when it was time to take a shot, Boyan missed his attempt and Bingbong got the rebound with 8.7 remaining. The ball ended on the hands of Django who was fouled by Raffy with 2.3 seconds remaining. Both teams are in penalty and Django missed both free throw shots that could have won the game for the Pirates. The buzzer sounded and we got over time.

The Stallions opened the over time session with an 8-0 run, 107-99 with 3:37 in the clock. From that lead the Stallions never looked back and score 23 pts in the extra period compared to just 6 pts by the Pirates. The Stallions eliminated the Pirates and they move on to the second round play-offs.

Gunners gunned down aging Tigers

The Gunners (2) showing no mercy as they beat the Tigers (7) in a lopsided game, 76-58. The soon to be father, Natoy Nacalaban received an award as the 14th player to reach 1,000 pts, and also became the "Player of the Game" with 14 pts, 12 rebs, 2 ast and 2 stls. A little undersized but Natoy fought his way amongst the giants of the Tigers. Poy-poy Caluen had 13 pts with 8 rebs, Carlo Panugaling had 12 pts with 12 rebs, Kentoy Cabanes with 8 pts while Paolo Cordova and Ralph Lapiz each with 7 pts.

The Tigers attack was led by Intsik "foul bait" Lim with 16 pts, 6 rebs, 3 asts, 2 sts and 3-3pts. Manolo Along, the only Tigers in double digit had 13 pts with 8 rebs. Marvin Du came out to play with 10 rebs but the effort of the team was not enough to stretch their series to another day.

The 1st qtr ended with the Tigers on top 15-14. It was close and in the 2nd qtr the game was tied at 26 all with 2:32 remaining. It was 29-26 when Badon hit a three point shot but that was the last lead the Tigers had in this game. After that, it was all Gunners. The run and gun style of the Gunners just clicked in full motion and left the Tigers growling for nothing. The Gunners out scored the Tigers in the 3rd qtr 26-11. The Gunners moves on to the second round, facing off with the Stallions. The Stallions and the Gunners were the teams who fought each other in the last championship where the Stallions won the series 2-1.

Chug's 8-3pts extends Underdogs for another duel

Chug "lawman" Cadiogan was unconscious in this game. He hit 8-3pts to score 25 pts in the game with 4 rebs, 2 asts, 2 stls and 1 blk as he is the "Player of the game" as the Underdogs (8) wins over the Snipers (1) in over time 106-104. The Underdogs who are undersized and undermanned showed character and poise all game long. Blair Filipinas managed 26 pts (3-10 3pts) for the Udogs while Chris Aguillon had 19 pts with 7 rebs, Marco Paasa with 16 pts (4-6 from 3pts) and 8 rebs, Rik-rik Lumo had 13 pts (including 5 straight filed goals). The Udogs hit 16 three pointers in the entire game to upset the # 1 seeded Snipers.

The Snipers was led by the 5th season MVP Boning "magician" Biongcog with a play-off record high 50 pts and managed 16 rebs, 14 asts, 4 stls, 1 blk and 4-3pts. Boning got the "Player of the Day" honors and has his first play-offs triple-double in this game. Ian Dy contributed 16 pts, Albert Camaddo with 12 pts and Budoy Abello with 11 pts. Ol-ol Velasco had 11 rebs in the lost.

Let's forward to the 4th qtr. In 4th qtr, the Udogs lead 84-78 with 6:19. The Snipers made a 8-2 run to tie the game at 86 all. Boning broke the tie and Blair tied the game at 88 with 2:32 remaining. Boning was 1-2 with 1:59 left to give a point lead to the Snipers 89-88. Blair hit a jumper to get the lead back 90-89 with 1:37, Boning answered with a penetration 91-90, 1:15 in the clock. With 57.7 remaining Chug was 1-2 from the line to tie the game at 91 all. Bert Cam's made a turn-over at the 40.1 mark and Chris hit a turnaround with Ol-ol in his face, 93-91 with 27.1. Boning tied the game with 16.2 remaining at 93 all. The Udogs failed to score in the remaining time as Chug missed a three point shot and we go to overtime.

In overtime, Udogs scored first via Chris 1-2 from the line, 94-93, 4:46. It took a while for the Snipers to score but Boning hit 2 at 3:58, 95-94 Snipers. Chug hit another 3ptr from Rik-rik's pass and tied at 97 all, 2:20 left. Rik-rik secured the rebound, Chug hit his 8th 3ptr of the game to give the Udogs a 3pt lead 100-97, from Marco's pass. In the Snipers next possession, Boki Biongcog missed a 3pt attempt at the 1:29 mark and Rik-rik secured the rebound. Rik-rik was fouled and both teams were in the penalty. Rik-rik was 1-2 from the line but gave the Udogs a 4 pt lead, 101-97.But Boning refused to lose as the Snipers scored the next 4 pts via Boning's jump shot and Budoy from Boning's pass to even the score at 101 all with 51.6 remaining. But Marco delivered the last nail in the coffin and hit a 3ptr with 34.6 remaining. Marco was surprised that he was open in the left elbow as he was making his shot, then thought, why not try a 3ptr and it went in. In the next play Boning was 1-2 from the line with 24.7 left, 104-102, Udogs. The Snipers sent Blair to line the immediately (21.9 clock) and the Snipers gamble paid off as Blair was 0-2 from the line. Boning scored with 5.1 in the clock to tie the game at 104. The Udogs called a time out and designed a play. Then with so little time left, Chris made a jumper to give the Udogs a 2 pt lead, 106-104 with 3.2 remaining. The Snipers with no time out left was surprised and could not come up with a shot. The Udogs stretched their conference by beating the # 1 seed.
