ILIGAN City-- A former city councilor yesterday said that the senators, as members of the impeachment court do not have to write down their decisions after the impeachment trial. Atty. Alfredo Busico, former city councilor said on air that the 23 senators will only have to say orally whether he is for conviction or acquittal of Chief Justice Renato Corona. Each senators will only have to say "aye" or "nye" and 16 votes is necessary to convict the Chief Justice or 2/3 of their number. They are not required to write down their votes or explain them, the former councilor who is also a city consultant added. And most probably, he said each senator will base his decision on his beliefs.
He did not believe though he admitted that this month of February, it will still go on. The evidence versus Corona, he said were revealed by the bank personnel themselves in the course of the trial, during their cross examination and remember, Busico said the impeachment court is not like any other court, where the rules of court is to be strictly followed. Therefore, each senator will have to base his decisions on his beliefs as these too, is a political game said Busico. Busico incidentally, is with the political party of Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz and majority of the city officials, which is Liberal Party. To recall, Congressman Vicente Belmonte,Jr. of the lone district of Iligan, who ran in tandem with Cruz during the last elections, was among the 188 congressmen who signed the impeachment of Chief Justice Renato Corona. Belmonte said he had read the papers before signing them even as some of the other congressmen just signed without reading.
