Schools should improve performance or consider shutting down: Solons

Congressman Rufus B. Rodriguez of the second district of Cagayan de Oro and Congressman Maximo B. Rodriguez, Jr. of Abante Mindanao Party-list find the need to improve the performance of law School in the country. There view came after records of the Bar confidant's office of the Supreme Court showed that in the Bar examinations of 2010, 32 law Schools in the country got zero passing score. They added that 10 of these Schools have records of zero scores in Bar examinations preceding to 2010.

There is a need to improve the performance of some law Schools in the country and maybe even considering shutting down Schools that continue to produce sub-standard graduates who may not be fi t to become lawyers. They claimed that today, there are more than 60 law Schools in the Philippines being monitored by the Legal Education Board (LEB), the agency charged by law to improve the quality of legal Education in the Philippines. As of 2010, the top law Schools in the country are Ateneo de Manila University, San Beda College, University of the Philippines, FEU-De La Salle University MBA-JD Dual Degree program, University of San Carlos and San Sebastian College of Law.

Cong. Rufus said that it is imperative to act on this matter as there are thousands of Filipinos who dream of becoming lawyers, but finding out later that the School they chose is not fit to arm them with the necessary ammunition they need to pass the BAR exams and enter the legal profession.

Considering that the BAR exam is widely acknowledged to be the most difficult professional exam in the country, it is important that the law Schools in the country are up to par and comply with the Policies and Standards of Legal Education and Manual of Regulations for Law Schools.
