Group writes PNoy: Nail fugitive officer

THE women's coalition Tubaga has written to  President Aquino and asked that Malacañang cause the immediate arrest of fugitive police officer Lonie Rementizo. Tubaga also sent letters to Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo and Justice Secretary Leila de Lima.

The group, which is behind the girls allegedly abused by PO2 Rementizo, asked Aquino to see if the government could set aside at least P250 thousand in hopes of speeding up the arrest of Rementizo. The group wants the money given as a reward to anyone who can arrest Rementizo or anyone who could provide vital information that could result in the fugitive officer's arrest. Rementizo stopped reporting for work at the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) when two branches of the regional court issued a dozen warrants for his arrest in connection with rape and child abuse charges.

His lawyer, Jose Pallugna, earlier promised a judge that he would make Rementizo face the court this month.
The four-page letter to Aquino was signed by Tubaga co-convenor Beverly Musni of Karapatan and the Union of People's Lawyers in Mindanao, Maja Kristine Lim of Gabriela, Sr. Regina Pil of the Religious of Good Shepherd Sisters, Rhodora Bulusan of Samahan ng mga Maralita sa Kanayunan; Sr. Gertrudes Erline Bacol of the Pastoral Counseling Center-Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines and the Social Action Center of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, Adora Ellevera of Touch Foundation, Lalae Garcia of RGS-Outreach Program for Abused Women and Children and lawyer Liza Amarga of UPLM.

Tubaga also asked Aquino to pressure the interior department and the police to arrest Rementizo, and to keep an eye on inactions.
Tubaga earlier announced it would launch a fund-raising campaign to be dubbed as "Piso-piso Para Aresto ni Rementizo." The campaign would become part of Tubaga's concluding activities for International Women's Month. The group, meanwhile, urged Aquino to direct all Region 10's People's Law Enforcement Boards and the Regional Internal Affairs Service to maske an inventory of all cases filed by women seeking the suspension, discharge or support from erring police officers.

They said the inventories should be made public. The group said the Aquino administration should institutionalize an "award, reward and commendation system" to encourage law enforcement groups to act against rapists, harassers and pedophiles. Tubaga said law enforcers responsible for the raid on a cybersex den, who entrapped Rementizo near a motel last Sept. 20, and arrested suspected American child offenders James Robert Naquin and James Leon Edler, among others, should be commended and rewarded.
