City hall identifies dead girl found in Macasandig


AUTHORITIES have identified the child whose remains were unearthed during a clean-up drive in Sitio Cala-cala, Tibasak in Macasandig, last Sunday. The City Information Office the child was five-year old Bobby Avila whose grandmother, city hall employee Vivian Avila, is still missing. The girl's remains were found during the Kagay-anon Kami Katimbayayong Mo Misamisnon clean-up drive in Barangay Macasandig. The decomposing body was found near the Royal Palm Mansions by a resident who went with a group of volunteers from Naawan, Misamis Oriental, led by town vice mayor Dennis Roa. As the curious onlooker watched as volunteers pulled out debris from the mud, he saw hair strands.

The find made people in Zone 1, Biasong, suspect that in the areas surrounding the San Lorenzo chapel still lie unrecovered bodies . The girl's remains were right away taken by the Oro Alert Team and subsequently turned over to authorities for examination. The girl, according to city hall, was one of the many Typhoon Sendong victims who lived in Cala-cala in Tibasak, Macasandig. Cala-cala is one of the places in the city long identified by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources as a disaster-prone area. Despite the DENR warnings, Cala-cala was turned into a "piso-piso" resettlement area by city hall.
