Emano rap highlights 3rd Radyo CDO podcast

RADYO CDO yesterday released the third of a series of guerrilla- style podcasts with a Vicente Emano sound-alike character doing rap music. The 16-minute and 58- second podcast opened with a greeting to miners: "Wala pa ba nagburot inyo mga tiyan? Mining (read: Maay' ning) ipatubag mo!"Radyo CDO sharply criticized mining operators who were widely perceived to be responsible for the December devastation in the city. The editorial in the third Radyo CDO installment was read by Dr. Antonio Montalvan II, a known critic of the Emano administration.

The full text of Montalvan's editorial: "Fourteen years ago, Vicente Emano of Tagoloan stepped into the city hall of Cagayan de Oro. He had nowhere to go. His time at the provincial capitol of Misamis Oriental was up. He came to Cagayan de Oro for political convenience. He had no roots here. He never grew up here. He did not come to School here. But he came here only to perpetuate himself in power. That was the first sign that he came here not for a genuine desire for public service.

"In his 14 years in power, Emano brought the most polluted method of local governance never before seen in the history of this city. Public works projects are continually awarded to only one favored contractor, despite laws governing public bidding. His projects do not comply with the required Environmental Compliance Certificate. Election results are dictated according to his whim and fancy. Opposition politicians are given only a token of, at best, two seats in the city council. His kowtowing councilors have to meet with him every Monday at breakfast during which time he dictates the ordinances that he wants passed for the Tuesday sessions. For the first time in our city, the revered system of checks and balances between the executive and the legislative is just a rhetorical pillar of democracy.

"Emano also projects the traditional image of the warlord politico. He is surrounded by armed body guards. He moves around in a convoy, even if he does not take time to see the decrepit conditions that the city has turned into for the last 14 years. He uses radio as a medium, and is known to provide generous largesse to radio anchors that trumpet his name with loud alacrity day in and day out.

"The result of 14 years is not only a city that has become fetid and dilapidated. The people of the city have learned to fear Emano and his noted penchant to retaliate. It is time for the people of Cagayan de Oro to have balls, no matter if the city's business and cultural leaders have lost their balls. This is what is needed now--the courage to denounce this dictator and to expose him for what he is: a power hungry tyrant whose heart does not bleed for this city. The guy is simply a fraud. All it takes to expose that is balls!"

At the end of the podcast, Montalvan and six others endorsed Radyo CDO through a "house ad." They identified themselves and then proudly declared "Kagay-anon 'ko... Kini ang Radyo CDO!"The others were Xavier University communications teacher Evans Yonson, earlier identified as one of the makers of the Radyo CDO podcast, former Gusa barangay chairperson Enrico Salcedo, lawyer James Judith, Save CDO Now spokesperson Tito Mora, ex-councilor Teodulfo Lao, former Gusa councilor Marlo Tabac and environmentalist-lawyer Kristine Ravanera.

Radyo CDO is hosted by mp3 file sharing site Tindeck. The account is being used by a person using the username "andresdesaya."The highlight of the podcast was the Emano sound-alike "Vicente Eminem" rapping with a baritone voice. The podcast mocked "VYE," saying it stands for "Violet, Yellow, Eww!"--colors that have become dominant in city hall and the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA).

The mayor's son, Rep. Yevgeny Vincente Emano of the 2nd District of Misamis Oriental, downplayed the online mockeries, saying that these were proof that his family's critics are "elitists." He said majority of Cagayanons have no Internet access."They sit down and spend all their waking hours on Facebook every day--they have nothing else to do," Rep. Emano told local radio over the weekend.
