THE Senate, sitting as impeachment court of embattled Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona, will take a break on Jan. 23 which has been declared by President Benigno S. Aquino III as a special nonworking holiday in connection with the celebration of the Chinese New Year. "We would like to announce that we will have no hearing on Monday, January 23, because as you know it has been declared holiday by President Aquino," impeachment court spokesperson Tina Cruz said in a press briefing on Wednesday.

By virtue of Proclamation No. 295 signed on November 24 last year, the President declared January 23 which falls on a Monday as a special nonworking day in the country to give both Chinese-Filipinos and Filipinos alike the opportunity to celebrate the holiday. With the declaration, the impeachment court will have no trial from January 20 which falls on Friday which was declared as motion day of the court, up to January 23. PNA
