Layese, 8 other narcs face robbery charges

A 78-YEAR OLD Muslim reli-gious leader has filed a robbery case against Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) regional director Edwin Layese and eight of his men before the City Prosecutor's Office.

PDEA agents facing charges together with Layese are Joseph Theoldore Atila, Niel Vincent Pimentel, Vincent Cecil Orcales, Rodolfo dela Cerna, Manuel Chacon Jr., Expedito Cardona Jr., and Jerard Nyll Pica. In a complaint filed last Friday, Hadji Aziz Datu Romampat, 78, of Sitio Sto. Nino, Barangay 31, alleged that sometime last Feb. 3, PDEA agents barged into his house and took cash and valuables.

Romampat alleged the law enforcers conspired in opening cabinets and allegedly carted away some P15,700 in cash, two gold bracelets with bungles worth P48 thousand, a gold necklace worth P20 thousand and a gold ring of undetermined value.
"They further took four plastic coin canisters of my grandson, forcibly opened it with the use of knife, took the coins of undetermined amount and also forcibly brought my daughter Emon Datu Romampat with them," he said.

He said he was violated by the PDEA agents despite his being a religious leader.
Barangay 31 councilor Diosdado Wabe, who issued an affidavit for Romampat, said a group that claimed to be with PDEA went to the barangay hall that day and asked to be accompanied. "I accompanied them and upon arrival, I saw that the things inside Romampat's residence were already in disarray. One of the PDEA agents showed to me transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu which he claimed they have recovered from the roof of the house thrown by a child," he said.

The barangay councilor claimed that he told PDEA agents not to bring Emon Datu Romampat because they have not recovered anything from her possession and he could attest that she was not engaged in the illegal drug trade. But to his dismay, Wabe said, he later learned the PDEA agents led by Layese brought her along with them and filed a case against her for alleged possession of shabu.
Layese was not available when he was sought for comment.
