Kabataan Paglaum Fest held in Oro

THE National Youth Commission (NYC) in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund celebrates the Kabataan Paglaum Fest 2012 on January 27 and 28, 2012. January 25 marked the 40th day since tropical storm Sendong struck and ravaged Mindanao. NYC chair Leon Flores III said the endeavour aims to reinforce the psychosocial interventions undertaken by other government and non-government organizations (NGO) to instill hope and inspiration the affected residents for Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities.
"Layunin ng NYC na tulungan ang mga kababayan natin sa CDO at Iligan lalao na ang mga kabatraan. Napakavulnerable ng kanilang estado ngayon kaya kailangan natin silang protektahan sa mas malala pang trauma," said Flores. The two-day festival proper will last today in Cagayan de Oro City and Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT).
"Kasama sa festival ay mga workshop para sa kabataan. Mayroong acting/theatre arts workshop and photography class sa umaga at health information session, peer counselling and Pangkabuhayan workshop naman sa hapon. Mga batikang personalidad ang facilitators ng workshop, andiyan si Juana Change para sa acting workshop at si Mr. Napoleon Beltran naman ng Photoworld Manila for the photography workshop," Flores added. Aside from the workishop, there will also be an entertainment show with Bb. Pilipinas 2010 Venus Raj, Tom Rodriguez and Princess Manzon as expected guests. Flores hopes that this activity will help ease the trauma the youth of Mindanao had experienced since tropical storm Sendong hit the area. "We can only do so much pero naniniwala pa rin ako na i tong activity ay isang malaking avenue para mabura na sa isipan ng mga kabataan ang malagim na sinapit nila noong bagyong Sendong," Flores said in a closing statement. *
