ZAMBOANGA City -- The Zamboanga Canine Club was organized recently with the core objective of promoting responsible dog ownership and to unite all dog owners in Zamboanga. "Responsible ownership goes without saying that you look into the welfare of your dog" said Dr. Marcus James Arquiza -Mancao President/founder of ZCC and a dog lover and breeder himself.
Mancao clarified that being a responsible dog owner also means being responsible of the dog's welfare by providing them needed vaccines like anti-rabies', and other "can't do away" vaccinations/shots. "If you're responsible, then you also walk your dogs for exercise and all that," Mancao said as he cited the ZCC's Walk the Dog activity conducted over the weekend where close to 30 dog owners/breeders gathered as one and participated in the said activity where a four- year old child was noted as the youngest participant.
The Walk the Dog activity was conducted for purposes of exposure and promotion, said Mancao. "It is also an invitation to other dog lovers, and a message that says Zamboanga is still a dog loving city and we can still say na hindi pa tayo dehado sa ibang cities with regards to owning purebred dogs," Mancao explained. Mancao also emphasized on the importance of the relationship between and among members of ZCC "the organization breathes on trust, respect, and camaraderie among dog owners without bickering, backbiting, and crab mentality as to who has the best looking dog," Mancao emphasized.
"If you can't respect your fellow dog owner how can you respect your dog? Your dog is your dog and you are his person. We learn from other dog owners, we help and assist each other in anyway we can for our dogs," said Mancao. The organization which was organized in December 2010 started with just a few members, - "15 proactive individuals with one common denominator -love for dogs," Mancao claimed. Barely two months from its conception, ZCC members continuously grow in number. "We haven't really got the whole population, but I guess its running 50 pa lang," confirmed Mancao.
" I would like to invite all the dog owners out there to join our group and be one in the promotion of responsible dog ownership, and put Zamboanga City back on track with regards to owning and breeding pure bred dogs in the Philippines," Mancao said.
ZCC is the brainchild of Western Mindanao Pitbull Terrier Club- the sole pitbull club here in Region 9 since 2004 where Mancao is also the president and founder. Mancao's not just a dog lover but he has been breeding pit-bull since he was 16. pia
