HERE are some SMS sent to me: From 094621589___: "Mura man Dongkoy na ka! Why appreciate Dongkoy? La man siya nahimo except count votes from the victms. Imo column dapat help oust 'Alas' from city hall." Tabletalk: C'mon guys, give the man a break! I wrote not because I hate or like the guy. It's just that the guy was pummeled left and right. Some of the blows, I have to say, were below the belt and had nothing to do with his governance. I simply wrote something that all those who hate Mayor Dongkoy missed. And here's one more: Because of his brand of leadership, which I am not saying is good or bad, city officials and other minor and major functionaries could be directed to do a Job. Just look at how fast the development of the Calaanan property into a relocation/housing site has been carried out. Okay, the guy is feared at city hall and that is why he can do things, right or wrong.
From 63915821____: "Pakisulat ra gud nga dapat mag-reach out si mayor sa probinsya aron tabangan siya ni gob (governor) pag-rebuild sa mga damaged areas. Ang ciudad sa Cagayan de Oro garbo sa Misamis Oriental. Dili jud mahimo Misamis Oriental lang kung wala ang Cagayan de Oro nor Cagayan de Oro lang walay Misamis Oriental. Both come in tandem for investment promotions. Mag-estor ya kuno sila ug kalimtan ang mga politics kay dili naman sila duha daug dinhi syudad!
Tabletalk: Mag estorya silang duha! Estor yaheeeee! Mayor Dongkoy is a jealous man, a trait of a not-a-good-leader. He thinks he can do it alone. Just look at what happened to the funding for the city hospital from then- senator Nene Pimental and Rep. Rufus Rodriguez. He'd rather that the services of the city hospital deteriorate than give an inch for his political enemies to get an ounce of accolade. If Mayor Dongkoy wants help from Misamis Oriental, he can do it through the two congressmen of the province and their allied mayors. Reps. Bambi Emano and Pedro Unabia can ask these mayors to bring all their payloaders, graders, bulldozers and dump trucks for a two-day operation to clean city streets and gather all wastes and garbage on the street! This is the least of what a Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental cooperation can do. But wait, aren't there supposed to be an "UBE" group of congressmen? Well, the other one can have some of his posters decorate where the work gangs would be assigned. His face on these posters could definitely inspire! Wheee!
From 63922808____: "Pwede man diay pasara ang mining operations nga makadaut sa kinaiyahan sa Pantukan, Compostela Valley. Pero ngano nga dili man mapaundang ang hydraulic mining diha sa bukid sa Iponan? The mud that settled inside our houses last Dec. 17 at Bloomingdale came from the over flowing and heavily silted Iponan River. Buyagon gyud ning atong amigong mayor."
Tabletalk: Mining, whether legal or illegal, is always environmentally destructive unless these are found to be practical in some areas of the country. And no matter how high tech is the method used in these mining operations, there will always be some repercussions on our environment. These destructive effects are more pronounced when hydraulic mining hits the mountain sides and cliffs of surrounding river lines. Basin gusto ka sab mag mayor sunod tuig aron ikaw na sab among buyagon! The question we have to ask is not why "buyagon si mayor," but if members of our city council are willing to fight to the death in defense of continued mining. Well, what is mine is mine, and what is yours is still mine!
I'm waiting for members of the city council, government, including barangay officials and members of the media who were alleged to have some"miningconnections,"to come out and admit openly. Or else, Monsignor Elmer Abacajin, the most favorite priest of Mayor Dongkoy and the unopposed incoming president of the Cagayan de Oro Press Club, should categorically say that nobody in his holy lineup is tied to any mining interest, legal or illegal!
