MCT reports 17% cargo growth for 2011

THE Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) has reported handling 210,507 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of cargo for 2011 or 17 percent higher than the 180,000 TEUs handled in 2010. Dante Clarito, Phividec Industrial Authority seaport department manager, the body responsible for MCT's management and operation, said that this volume was much higher than their projected 210,000 TEUs.

"The figure could have been much higher if not for the slowdown in the volume of wood products in the second half of 2011," he added. "Nevertheless, business in the region remains vibrant and also hopefully we can go back to normal operations soon after the floods that hit the nearby province of Misamis Oriental last month," Clarito said. Located at Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, MCT has five direct callers. These are APL, Mariana Express, Maersk Lines, Regional Container Lines, and Pacific Eagle Lines. PNA
