THE City Agriculture Office (CAO) in Davao City will put up a P3-million botanical center in barangay Baganihan, Marilog District to cater to small-scale agriculture producers based in the barangays. Leonardo P. Avila III, officer in charge of the City Agriculturist Office, said the Davao City Botanical Garden and Agri-Products Display Center is expected to be operational by March this year.
Avila said the center is a joint project of Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the city government. "Our office serves as the head of the project committee," he said. Avila said the DA allocated P3 million for the project -- with P2- million for infrastructure while the remaining fund as working capital and production inputs. This will cater to small-scale producers of ornamental plants, vegetables and indigenous products such as coffee and high-value crops in the area.
The project is established along the two-hectare site in the identified barangay. It is part of the DA's "Agrikulturang Pinoy" program that aimed to promote sustainable agricultural growth and development in the country, he said. PNA
